In the series 'black paintings' we constantly see a radical frontier. These black demarcations show us the illusion of a view through like a repoussoir. They function as a closed framework that is literally present between the viewer and the suggestive palm leaves. Like an escape from reality, the apparent reality offers nothing more than an undefined void.

However, the visualized paradise world behind the facade is a dream image and stimulates a constant elusive desire.
